Newtown's Homebuyer Assistance Program is designed to help first time homebuyers achieve homeownership.

 

A Certified Housing Counselor works one-on-one with participants to identify and work on specific tasks required to purchase a home. Counseling activities may include:

 

  • Identify barriers to homeownership and develop an individualized action plan to eliminate the barriers.

  • Individualized credit counseling - obtain and review credit reports and credit scores; assistance with resolving credit issues.

  • Money management - help with creating spending plans and savings plans.

  • Referrals for affordable loan opportunities and assistance with analyzing financing options, and help with completing loan applications.

  • Referrals to down payment assistance programs and other resources.

  • Information and assistance throughout the home buying process.
